A short introduction

Hello, my name is Olivia and welcome to my first blog post! I am from south-east England and graduated with a first-class in criminology at the University of Sussex. I live with my parrot, Louis and my three cats, Rocky, Ziggy and Marie!

Interests and hobbies

I pursued my degree in criminology because I believe that studying the criminal justice system is one of the most insightful ways to determine what norms govern us as a society. I wanted to go beyond my interest in true crime and analyse why people commit crime, and how this impacts victims.

As a whole, I love learning new things. For the past four years, I have been studying Japanese in my spare time. On top of finding the culture very interesting, I am interested in a lot of things that have come from Japan. In particular, the visual kei music subculture and games.

Before I went down a more academic path, I was very interested in pursuing makeup artistry as a career. Art has always been a hobby of mine, but never something I stuck at. Within the past year I have been working on building my illustrative skillset, recently venturing into the world of graphic design too.

Why did I make this blog?

This website originally began as part of a digital skills course, where we created a website and justified decisions made in the creative process. I have made a couple attempts to start a blog in the past, but never stuck at it. This time, I intend to use this blog as a way to showcase my writing skills, alongside my creative work. It gives me a reason to keep practising writing, which is especially important now I have graduated. I hope this website serves its purpose as a portfolio that employers can look at and get an idea of what abilities I can bring to a role. I also have an instagram where I will post my creative pieces more frequently.
